Hi Ben, I agree with John about using one of the standard FreeBSD NetBSD and OpenBSD but that aside I would recommend exporting your password database into an LDAP database. You can find more info at :
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/LDAP-HOWTO/ I am not sure about the nss situation in the BSD varieties but that Debian Linux can be easily configured to use LDAP for authentication and naming.
