Porting applications to Debian when you have an allergy to Linux, or Linux doesn’t work as well on the hardware you use, would be a good example ☺ On the other hand, it’s also a good portability test for most of the GNU software. Nobody would bug you about binary device drivers either ☺ although the BSD people (OpenBSD the most, FreeBSD the least though) strongly discourage them.
