The install guide for Debian/kFreeBsd found here:

has a minor error. It suggests that 500Mb is enough disk space to 'play
with' the system.
Imagine my bemusement when I discovered that a 1Gigabyte qemu cow2 disk
failed to install due to lack of disk space.
I switched to a 2Gigabyte disk, and install succeeded.
I looks like we ported more packages :-)
It should be fixed now.
