I got the same problem with the images from the past few weeks. The topic on the IRC-Channel says, that you should use the image from 2010-03-06. But this image doesn't work for me too. So I looked through the images and found one working for me. This was the i386 image from 2010-02-23. I didn't find the time to try the amd64 image, but the i386 works with VirtualBox.
