I've been thinking about it. In this case, perhaps it'd be better if we worked together in stable/8 first. Then when we branch kfreebsd-9 it will be easier to avoid divergence with its parent branch. Following SVN tradition and current repository layout, I'd suggest that we copy /trunk/kfreebsd-8 into /branches/squeeze/kfreebsd-8, and then the latter can be used to track squeeze and the former can go for stable/8.
