It is not influencing my vague plans anyway. Note I was seeking general consensus (and help) for iSCSI on kfreebsd [1]. Basically I have two (reasonable) choices, a pure user space driver which would not be affected by kfreesd-9 at all, or alternatively a port of the Linux enterprise target [2] kernel driver, which is heavily tied to the FreeBSD kernel in a huge out-of-tree patch [3]. With all due to respect to FreeBSD porters I wasn't sure we shall adapt this patch for kfreebsd, since there - in my opinion - some doubts remain, whether this patch is maintainable for an entire stable release cycle. Unfortunately I got no response from either the porters or upstream regarding this. Therefore I am still undecided what approach I should choose (which is basically the reason why I didn't talk to pkg-iscsi-maintainers after all, which had to agree on the patch approach as well). Finally the kfreebsd kernel driver porting is blocked by several bugs, notably #630509 and #625261 came me in my mind. As I'm no Debian developer (yet), I'd moreover prefer to maintain the kfreebsd driver in a team with BSD porters/developers, rather than all alone. As nobody signaled interest back then in [1] I didn't look any further by now. If someone with full upload capabilities is interested to join my approaches, just let me know.
