I believe there is a serious problem
Try even this:
dd if=/proc/version bs=1
It might be related to changes of sbuf implementation between 8 and 9.
Robert, please could you test it under pristine FreeBSD kernel.
Probably not only linprocfs, but also native FreeBSD procfs is affected.
It should get upstream attention before their 9.0 release.
