Hi!
I maintain PackageKit for Debian, which provides a package management
service used by GNOME and KDE (GNOME has a hard dependency on it,
currently)
PackageKit in it's newest version doesn't build on !linux
architectures, due to Linux specific functions, and I don't have the
knowledge to make it work on !linux.
You can find the file which needs to be adjusted here:
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-packagekit/packagekit.git;a=blob;f=lib/packagekit-glib2/pk-spawn-polkit-agent.c;h=751a425bdb79f93a7c3131ebcbb62e761f61cd02;hb=HEAD
(spawning a policykit console service)

This is really the only thing which blocks PackageKit from being built
on !linux, it would be very cool if someone could fix it!
I will apply patches upstream too, so this doesn't have to be carried
downstream at Debian.
Kind regards,
    Matthias Klumpp
