Maybe some of this helps: http://wiki.freebsd.org/TuningPowerConsumption It may be somewhat out of date though; the defaults in FreeBSD 9.x are much better than 8.x. And some of it will not apply to GNU/kFreeBSD. You could make sure powerd is running and check for processes using excessive CPU. (lightdm possibly has problems).
