Actually yes it's enabled already in wheezy, hmmm.

kbdcontrol seems to be doing some ioctls which fail with ENOTTY even
though I use "< /dev/console"

Previously there was thought to only be an incompatibility with 8.3, but
it's failing for me on 9.0?
