Hah. This is something I never would have thought to test for, and a lot of my systems don't use a USB keyboard anyway. It's surprising if this were some risky optimisation that it didn't affect something more critical and prevent the kernel from booting at all. > I expect it will work, as upstream uses contemporary clang.
