WITH_NEW_XORG actually does enable the extra-xf86drmMode.c patch, when libdrm2 is built by FreeBSD, along with many other things: http://svnweb.freebsd.org/ports/head/graphics/libdrm/Makefile?annotate=328711&pathrev=328711#l30 Debian will additionally need: || defined(__FreeBSD_kernel__) I'm quite sure this is why Radeon KMS didn't work when I tried it.
