AFAIK VESA still only gives a 1024x768 display? I have been running
radeon (without kms) on my old Thinkpad Z61m (ATI x1400) to get full
screen resolution -- there's a huge difference between getting 1680x1080
and 1024x768. Though I guess a setup that gives reliably working X is
the only real choice here. And I haven't tested anything with radeonkms
so no idea if it is usefull the same way radeon was.
