Galeon is not an image browser, so I think it should be used in the last
resort that's why I would use a "priority=1" in the
/usr/lib/mime/packages/galeon files for all the image related mime-types.

 Right now, priority seems to be "0" for images and "8" for HTML files.

 Hence, I'm closing the bug, please reopen it if necessary.
