Package: sendmail
Version: 8.13.1-20
Severity: normal
During the upgrade procedure sendmail creates /etc/mail/Makefile, that
re-creates db files eg. access.db. However, in my case this went wrong
with a message:
makemap: error opening type hash map access.new.db: Permission denied
The reason is probably that the ownership of /etc/mail is set to
smmta:smmsp, whereas the upgrade is done by root. However, I tried to
change the ownership of /etc/mail to root and then re-install sendmail,
but that was not effective, because somewhere during the installation
the ownership was reverted to smmsp.
Actually I don't know whether I must hope that this is actually a bug or
that is was me doing some silly thing.
Thanks,
Paul Huygen
