Severity: normal
Hi,
If I run unicode_stop and then unicode_start as a normal user on the
first VC, the letters [AaEe] stop working (I can no longer type them in,
but I can enter e.g. ALT+99, ALT+101 etc. to get them). Running
/etc/init.d.keymap.sh start restores the keymap, and everything then
works normally.
This may be similar to other unicode issues, but it affects plain ASCII
characters. Also, the letters work in both byte and unicode modes if
the keymap is correct.
I didn't think that changing the byte/unicode mode should touch the
keymap.
This is my /etc/environment:
EDITOR=vim
VISUAL=vim
CVSROOT=/var/lib/cvs
NNTPSERVER=localhost
TMPDIR=/tmp
LANG=en_GB
Root's locale is POSIX, as expected, but /etc/init.d/console-screen.sh
will evaluate this:
$ LANG=en_GB locale charmap
UTF-8
However, this only appears to set unicode mode on the first VT! If I
run unicode_stop on any other VT (2-5), it says it's already in
byte-mode!
I don't have any extra keyboard remappings in /etc/console-tools/remap,
and the only lines in /etc/console-tools/config are:
BLANK_TIME=30
BLANK_DPMS=off
POWERDOWN_TIME=30
LEDS=+num
which don't look relevant.
If you want any more information, I'll be happy to oblige.
Regards,
Roger
