Package: evolution
Version: 1.2.4-1
Severity: normal

I use an LDAP server which is often unavailable. When I enter an address in the
composer window, this causes Evolution to hang - sometimes for 5 minutes,
sometimes indefinitely. My only way round it is to briefly bind the LDAP
server's address to my Ethernet adaptor after first disconnecting the cable,
which causes the TCP connection to eventually fail.

I've tried adjusting the search timeout in Directory Servers Preferences, but
the slider doesn't seem to work - it's always 2:30. Even so, it hangs for more
than 2:30 when the server doesn't respond - I'd like it to timeout after at
most 5 secs if it can't even connect, and if I could drop the search timeout
to 5 secs, that would be fine.

Thanks,
Ian Redfern.

This bug was reported upstream at:
http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3D51921

A patch was applied and it now works fine in Evolution 2.0.3

It does not allow for a timeout shorter than a minute, but the bug itself
is fixed, so I'm closing the report.

If the submitter is still unsatisfied, he might file a wishlist bug, asking
for a shorter timeout.
