Package: libpetsc2.1.6-dev
Version: 2.1.6-2
Severity: important

Greetings,

Fortran problems can't seem to link with PETSc and mpich properly, e.g.:

g77 -O2 -L/usr/lib/petscdir/2.1.6/lib/libO/linux -o ex1f ex1f.o
-L/usr/lib/petscdir/2.1.6/lib/libO/linux -lpetscfortran
-L/usr/lib/petscdir/2.1.6/lib/libO/linux -lpetscsnes -lpetscsles
-lpetscdm -lpetscmat -lpetscvec -lpetsc -L/usr/lib/mpich/lib/shared
-L/usr/lib/mpich/lib -lmpe -lpmpich
-lslog -L/usr/X11R6/lib
-lX11

-lblas2 -llapack2 -L/usr/lib/mpich/lib/shared -L/usr/lib/mpich/lib -lmpich -ldl
-lg2c -lc -lm
/usr/lib/petscdir/2.1.6/lib/libO/linux/libpetscfortran.a(zstart.o)(.text+0x43d):
 In function `petscinitialize_':
: undefined reference to `mpi_init__'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: [ex1f] Error 1 (ignored)

The mpi_init__ symbol is defined weakly in libmpich.a and libfmpich.a in
/usr/lib/mpich/lib, and manually inserting the full "libmpich.a" path in
place of -lmpich works around this problem.

These bugs should all have been fixed in the December 22 upload of mpich
version 1.2.5.3-2, which was just accepted into the archive.

If you do not feel a certain bug has been fixed, feel free to reopen it.
