Package: hpoj
Version: 0.91-3
Severity: normal

As noted in /usr/share/doc/hpoj/todo.shtml.gz, hpoj should provide a way
to check the ink levels. I needed this functionality so I coded a small
perl script that provides it.

The script is inspired from libinklevel which showed me how to interpret
the status string returned by the printer to extract the ink levels.
Once I found how to get this string using the hpoj utilities, writing a
perl script to decipher it was pretty easy. So I am posting it here
hoping it can be useful to others.

Based on the todo it seems the intent was to add this functionality to
ptal-hp. But I won't have time to do that so I'm leaving this as an
exercise for the reader. An alternative would be to ship my script,
which I have dubbed hpinklevel, with the hpoj package and I'm ok with
that too (the script is GPLed).

Notes:
 * libinklevel was written by Markus Heinz and is under the GPL.
 * It can be found there:
   http://libinklevel.sourceforge.net/
