Package: hddtemp
Version: 0.3-beta12-6
Severity: important

I started investigating, why my computer fails to boot with hddtemp
installed and daemon enabled.

hddtemp startup script hangs on my machine. Just the hddtemp process is
in D state (blk_execute_rq) and unkillable, other processes run fine.
Actually I can't let it start on boot or it would not get past starting
hddtemp daemon, the following is observed by trying to start hddtemp by
hand later.

The startup script calls hddtemp -wn /dev/sda. /dev/sda is a CF slot in
a USB 6-in-1 memory card reader, currently empty. /proc/partitions
shows only 2 ide disks.

Since hddtemp is not converted to SG_IO yet, the kernel logs
program hddtemp is using a deprecated SCSI ioctl, please convert it to SG_IO
but this should not cause hddtemp to hang (and implementing SG_IO is a
different problem, more like a wishlist item currently).

I have seen this with recent kernels, BK snapshots of pre-2.6.9 and also
post-2.6.9. x86 PC, via ide with disks, uhci usb, usb-storage with a
6-in-1 memory card reader.

I seem to remember that hddtemp hung even with the usb disconnected so I
disabled hddtemp startup script but I might remember wrong - maybe it
was connected all the time.
