Wordnet is one of the most comprehensive lexical database.

I noticed that now dict-wn is not available anymore and wordnet package
doesn't register itself under dictd's list of available dictionary
databases.

I checked the changelog but couldn't find anything relevant.

Hence, filing under severity important.

Wordnet should be part of dictd's dictionary database. Please.

Thanks,
Ritesh

This is true because tha data format is not compatible.

I checked the changelog but couldn't find anything relevant.

You should have done a better checking:

wordnet (1:2.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Standards-Version: 3.7.2  (No changes necessary)
  * Debhelper 5
  * removed dict-wn because wnfilter does not work
with WordNet 2.1 format and there was no response
from dict maintainers to fix this
    Closes: #357020

Hence, filing under severity important.

This bug is far from important - it would be at best wishlist.
But IMHO it is no problem of the WordNet package that it provides
no support for dict and that's why I'm closing this bug report.

If you consider the fact that

   http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2006/01/msg00417.html

gathered no response at all shows two things:

  1. I tried to solve this issue because I regard it personally
as very sad that dict-wn is not available any more.
  2. There seems to be no interest out there to solve this issue.

Wordnet should be part of dictd's dictionary database.

Yes.

Please.

You can fix this by either

  1. Maintaining a dict-wn package based on WordNet 2.0 (feel
free to file an ITP bug report - I could give some hints
how to build such a package quickly).
  2. Solve the problem I described under the URL above and
file a bug report (severity wishlist) to fix the script
that converts WordNet to dict format.

Kind regards

          Andreas.
