As this problem affects Woody -> Sarge upgrades, I'm unsure if this BR
should maybe be severity 'serious'.
I recently did a test upgrade from Woody to Sarge and encountered a
problem with the pass phrase dialog both during and after the upgrade.
See [1] for the full upgrade report.
On the Woody system, before upgrading, I'm presented with the following
dialog during system boot:
Starting web server: apache
Apache/1.3.26 mod_ssl/2.8.9 (Pass Phrase Dialog)
Some of your private key files are encrypted for security reasons.
In order to read them, you have to provide us with the pass phrases.
Server www.fjphome.nl:443 (RSA)
Enter pass phrase:
Ok: Pass Phrase Dialog successful
In preparation of the actual upgrade, I upgraded to the Sarge version of
aptitude, dpkg and apt. This resulted in libc6 being upgraded as well.
During the libc6 upgrade, Apache was restarted, but the pass phrase dialog
for SSL was not asked; the upgrade just stopped (seemed to hang).
I blindly entered the pass phrase and the upgrade continued.
This can be seen in the typescript of the upgrade attached in [1].
The actual upgrade involved the following apache packages (from aptitude
log):
[INSTALL, DEPENDENCIES] apache-utils
[UPGRADE] apache 1.3.26-0woody5 -> 1.3.31-7
[UPGRADE] apache-common 1.3.26-0woody5 -> 1.3.31-7
[UPGRADE] apache-doc 1.3.26-0woody5 -> 1.3.31-7
[UPGRADE] libapache-mod-ssl 2.8.9-2.4 -> 2.8.20-1
[UPGRADE] libapache-mod-ssl-doc 2.8.9-2.4 -> 2.8.20-1
During this upgrade I _was_ shown a shortened version of the pass phrase
dialog:

This can be seen in the typescript of the upgrade attached in [1].
After the upgrade I compiled a new kernel and rebooted the system.
Again, there was no pass phrase dialog at all! The reboot seems to hang
and blindly entering the pass phrase solves the problem.
I have attached my conf files from both before and after the upgrade.
