The standard Debian /etc/Muttrc has hooks for opening compressed
folders:
open-hook \\.gz$ "gzip -cd %f > %t"
close-hook \\.gz$ "gzip -c %t > %f"
append-hook \\.gz$ "gzip -c %t >> %f"
Opening a compressed mailbox with spaces in the filename fails, because
the space is seen as parameter separator. A quick solution would be to
add quotes around %f and %t, but then quotes in the filename may be a
problem.
