With version 5.37-1 smartd reports the SCSI disks (sda & sdb) as
detected while starting but then does not check for temperature or
anything afterwards. ATA disk drives (hda & hdb) are monitorized
fine. Optical disks (hdc & hdd) are detected and ignored as they can
not report anything. smartctl reports data fine when asked about any
of the four drives, ATA or SCSI, so the issue seems to only affect
smartd. This is what I found in the logs:

Later, info about the 2 ATA disks is logged, but nothing about the 2
SCSI ones, they seem to be ignored until next reboot or daemon
restart, in which the text above repeats. Thus the "Monitoring" line
does not match how the daemon behaves, nor what smartctl can do ("it
works").
I downgraded to 5.36-8, which does something like:
