Package: pidgin
Version: 2.0.0+dfsg.1-4
Severity: normal
After an upgrade from Gaim to Pidgin 2.0.0, the new mail notification
causes Pidgin's buddy list window to grow, with the right-hand edge of
the window moving rightward.
To reproduce, I simply:
Enable new mail notification (for msn or yahoo).
Quit Pidgin.
Send my msn/yahoo account mail.
Start pidgin, and log into either account.
The buddy list starts getting wider, and doesn't stop until the email is
read via my browser.
I can't resize the window to a smaller size after this growth has
occurred.
When I maximize this new size of buddy list window, it ends up far wider
than my screen (where usually a maximized window is the size of the
whole screen).
This problem doesn't occur when I move my .purple directory out of the
way and start from scratch, meaning it's something I inherited from my
old gaim installation that pidgin doesn't play well with.
I use XFCE, but I tried reproducing this in TWM just to see if it still
happens there, and it does.
In my $HOME/.purple/prefs.xml, I see the new width reflected in one area
of the preferences (with a 1680px wide screen):
<pref name='blist'>
<pref name='show_buddy_icons' type='bool' value='1'/>
<pref name='show_empty_groups' type='bool' value='0'/>
<pref name='show_idle_time' type='bool' value='1'/>
<pref name='show_offline_buddies' type='bool' value='0'/>
<pref name='list_visible' type='bool' value='1'/>
<pref name='list_maximized' type='bool' value='0'/>
<pref name='sort_type' type='string' value='status'/>
<pref name='x' type='int' value='0'/>
<pref name='y' type='int' value='500'/>
<pref name='width' type='int' value='3841'/> <<---------------- here
<pref name='height' type='int' value='434'/>
<pref name='tooltip_delay' type='int' value='500'/>
</pref>
I'm not sure what other information may be useful to this problem.
