Severity: important
Hello,
I was installing SoftLcr from Auerswald and the program had problems
getting access to the serial interfaces. Tracking down the problem, I
found
In order to find out, if a user can do a lock in the lock direcotry,
rxtx checks in src/SerialImp.c (see int check_group_uucp()), if the user
belongs to the uucp group (in fact it is more clever, it checks, if
group ownership of the /var/lock directory matches with one of the
groups the user belongs to).
On my system, I had
drwxrwxrwt 3 root root 4096 Feb 7 12:25 /var/lock/
i.e. the user was perfectly allowed to create a lock directory, but this
(too strict?) check stopped the SoftLcr program.
I changed group ownership not to uucp and everything works fine for me.
Not sure which is the woody default configuration, but I am not aware
that I changed the group ownership of /var/lock before (although woody
is installed since a long time here;-).
Thanks,
Rainer

I did a test with the current version and rxtx had no problem to create
a lock in /var/lock. Therefore I think, this bug can be closed.
