Hi,

The Debian patch 05_non-fatal_if_linux_hd_missing included in the Qemu
package removes the exit(1) present in the original code, which makes
Qemu exit when no disk image has been specified while booting directly
a Linux kernel.

However, it is not really useful, since it crashes immediatly after:

$ qemu -kernel /boot/vmlinuz
A disk image must be given for 'hda' when booting a Linux kernel
Segmentation fault

(Booting with a disk image works correctly).

Anyway, I don't understand why it is not possible to boot without a
disk image. One could for example boot over nfsroot, for example.

Sincerly,

Thomas

This was fixed in a previous release, but missed the bug closure in
the changelog. The relevant entry is:

  * Fix segfault when booting a Linux kernel w/o a disk image, by exiting but
    clarifying the message, as to use '/dev/null'. (Closes: #409817, #411780)
    Thanks to Robert Millan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

guillem
