As it seems to be not a problem of the lyx package I find it reasonable to
close this bug.

After I emailed the list (which you were CCed), I tried to install gcc
and Synaptic wouldn't let me. That was more than I could tolerate ! I
then reinstalled Debian and won't use Synaptic anymore but Aptitude
instead.
Hopefully, that will be the end of it !
