NB. less version 408 from testing is fine.
ITYM 406.
Indeed.
Indeed, 408 has a tendency to segfault when searching a non-UTF-8 file
in a UTF-8 locale. Here's a trivial example:
$ echo -e '\xe9e :' > foo
$ LANG=en_CA.utf-8 less foo
/a<enter>
Interestingly, removing any one of the three ASCII characters will
prevent the segfault.
As it turns out, this is the same bug as #446274 & the patch from that
bug report also fixes my problem. I've therefore closed the bug as
being fixed by less 408-2, after testing the binary from that version
on the files that made less 408-1 crash on my system.
cheers, Phil
