I love Gnome and I love the gtk-themes like Aqua but I noted that
ALL the gtk/gtk2 themes based on the engine pixmap are SLOW (you
need many tests and confrontations to see that). I don't understand
why no other gnome developers note that thing. 

Just a wish!
