Dear fontconfig package maintainer,

I'm VLGothic package maintainer. VLGothic is used as default font in
 Debian Japanese Desktop Environment.

VLGothic package directory places config file in /etc/fonts/conf.d now.
 Yes, it is ugly hack.

I discussed this issue with some Debian Developers and We think it
should be better that handled by fontconfig package (in /etc/fonts/
conf.avail/65-nonlatin). So I'll sent a patch. This patch improves
 dealing with Japanese fonts.

We'll use some Japanese fonts -VLGothic, IPAMona Gothic/Mincho,
 Sazanami Gothic/Mincho and Kochi Gothic/Mincho.

- - VLGothic is beautiful Japanese Gothic font and it is DFSG-free.
Some distributions (Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, FreeBSD and VineLinux)
have its pacakge. We'd like to use VLGothic rather than kochi or
sazanami font for default in Japanese Desktop environment.

- - IPAMona (IPA font's variant) is beautiful too and it is used as
default Japanese font in Ubuntu-ja (Ubuntu Japanese localization
image). But it has a restriction to redistibution, so it is NOT
  DFSG-free now.

- - Sazanami-* fonts are Kochi-* improved. So we choose Sazanami rather
  than Kochi.

Therefore, for Sans-serif, we'll choose default font as below order
 1. VLGothic
 2. IPAMona Gothic
 3. Sazanami Gothic
 4. Kochi Gothic (for compatibility)

and for Serif,
 1. Sazanami Mincho
 2. IPAMona Mincho
 4. Kochi Mincho (for compatibility)

Please apply this for your package. I would update vlgothic package
 after that. Thanks.

 Hideki Yamane
