Package: nethack
Version: 3.3.0-7

Notes: * I only play in console mode (text mode on my PC), with
         IBMgraphics and colour.
       * I play under the uid 1000.

1/ I cannot reproduce it but sometimes the message displayed on the
   first line is nothing but funny characters. It has happened to me
   several times in months.

   But usually typing "O<ESC>" just after that restores things
   correctly.

2/ More serious, and a but I am able to reproduce from the saved file:
   Kirk the Knight died of a trickery. Last time this happened it was a
   problem with a bad block on my hard disk (still, the game should try it
   will be able to restore the game upon saving it). Not this time.

   -=-=-=
   $ nethack -u kirk
   Restoring saved game...Segmentation fault.
   [nethack copyright message]
   Then the terminal is broken: carriage returns does nothing and
   PS1's stack on the same line. "reset" fixes that.

   In nethackdir I can see:
   1000kirk.<numbers>
   save/1000kirk (gunzipped then from the saved game 1000kirk.gz)

   recover says it cannot open the level 0.

I was sad to lose Kirk. At next reboot I observed messages about nethack
recovering a crashed game (I archived these messages along with the
level and save game files and can send you these files if you want
them).

In nethackdir I could see the level files were cleaned and the save/
subdir contained a brand new 1000kirk file.

I fired nethack up and sure enough, Kirk the Knight was back to life
where I had left him.

Not for long... Going down to Sokoban entry point and trying to climb up
to Sokoban first level, I got the message "Cannot find level 69, someone
probably removed it--More--Do you want your possessions identified?".

If you want the files I mention, just ask me.
I will try next time to not climb up Sokoban levels but I would rather
have them restored since I had not finished cleaning them (a damn gecko
made me lose on the last level: I had to destroy a boulder) and would
like to go back there get the special object of the last level.
