Package: mahoro-ruby
Version: 0.1-2
Severity: wishlist

Currently libmahoro-ruby contains,

/usr/share/doc/libmahoro-ruby/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libmahoro-ruby/copyright

and libmahoro1.8-ruby contains,

/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i486-linux/mahoro.so
/usr/share/doc/libmahoro-ruby1.8/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/doc/libmahoro-ruby1.8/copyright

Since libmahoro-ruby is empty, it would make sense to drop it
completely, or move libmahoro1.8-ruby stuff into libmahoro-ruby
package and drop the 1.8 variant.

I know that now there is that documentation page in the docs section
as well, but I'm sure that is small enough to enable consolidation of
these two packages.

PS. In the future, and since this is a very small binary anyway, I'm
sure there would be no problem if libmahoro-ruby contained more than
one build of libmahoro. For example,

/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i486-linux/mahoro.so
/usr/lib/ruby/1.9/i486-linux/mahoro.so
/usr/lib/ruby/2.0/i486-linux/mahoro.so

And then just Depend on ruby1.8 | ruby1.9 | ruby2.0

This actually may be a good solution for one of my small ruby
libraries as well :)

Hi Adam,

This is the way all ruby libs are managed currently (at least those
maintained by the pkg-ruby-extras team). If you want to change that,
please raise the topic on the debian-ruby@ mailing list first.

But attempts to write a ruby policy have failed in the past.

So I'm closing the bug for now, until we find a global solution.
