Package: clamav
Version: 0.90.1-3.1lenny3
Severity: normal

I thinkt these fileds shoukd be fixed:

 Recommends: arj, unzoo, clamav-base
 Suggests: unrar (>= 3.0-1), lha, clamav-docs

This would be better:

 Recommends: arj, unzoo, jlha-utils, clamav-base, unrar-free (>=
1:0.0.1+cvs20070515-1)
 Suggests: clamav-docs

That latest unrar-free really can open RAR-files that are made with the
latest versions of RAR. But please double-check it. jlha-utils is free
software, that can pack and unpack LHA-archives.

The description of unrar-free:
 "Unrar can extract files from .rar archives. Can't handle archives in
 the RAR 3.0 format, only the non-free "unrar" package can do that."

Additionally, the project homepage says:
 "It uses the GPL'd UniquE RAR Library by Christian Scheurer and Johannes
 Winkelmann."

The link to that projects homepage says:
 "This project is inactive"

So a dead project that can't actually unpack all the formats? Probably
not.

As for jlha-utils:
 "Note: Some of the functionality is missing currently, please read
  README.Debian for detailed information."

So that looks out as well.

While I agree that getting users to use the free variants is a
worthwhile goal, the point of clamav is to find malware, and it needs to
be able to do that in obscurely packed formats if necessary. I'm not
going to recommend hobbled variants that miss many commonly used
formats.

Thanks for the interest, but I'm going to close this now.

Take care,
