Amarok is configured to use xine backend (which uses alsa) and not to
perform crossfading (gap 0 ms). The first problem is that short
intervals of AAC songs are not played,I think that's less than a second.
This results in audible gap, or transition between two AAC songs which
should be played gapless.
The second problem shows up only at the end of the playlist. If an
ogg/vorbis song is played back, amarok doesn't play its very end, again
probably less than a second. This could be also true for other formats,
I just spotted this for ogg songs.

Please don't mix two separate bugs into one bug report.

Amarok 1.4.4 in etch (and xine probably) has some problems with ACC files,
e.g. length and progress are not reported at all or are reported around three
times shorter/slower. In addition, ACC files don't seem to be seekable.
However, I haven't noticed amarok cutting beginnings. Anyway, all these
problems I talked about are gone in amarok 1.4.8, which is available in
unstable. So I assume your problem with beginnings of AAC songs are very
likely to be gone too (I can't confirm them). Please test 1.4.8 if you can
and reopen this bug if they are still present.

Yes, the problem is known [1] and appears to be fixed at least in 1.4.8
