I checked this just now, apparently that is related to the
wxWindows2.5 issue and the currently availabe locales somehow. I have
managed to set the localized name, too.
I didn't had ro_RO.UTF-8 locale set as availabe - it seems resonable
to have it - when poedit refused to write localized name (although the
rest of the system allowed Romanian specific diacritics).

Is relevant in some way; the manual should be more explicit :) or I
should not be sometimes too dumb :).
(Anyway, there is a problem on my system related to localization, and
it hits from time to time)
