Package: alsa-base
Version: 1.0.16-1
Severity: normal

After this alsa upgrade, there's a new unpleasant effect with my laptop
sound (Intel 82801DB-ICH4 on IBM Thinkpad R40) which used to just work.
Namely, there seems to be a finite ramp-up time shaved off from the
beginning of sound files. This happens both with "aplay" and "play"
(from the sox package), but the effect is more pronounced (so to speak)
with aplay. For instance, executing

aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Rear_Left.wav

sounds more like "Ir Left".

I tried explicitly setting the clock rate as described in the kernel
documentation for this driver (i.e. snd_intel8x0), but it makes no
difference.
