Severity: critical

Justification: breaks the whole system

running debian unstable apt-get dist-upgrade:

done.
Starting RAID monitor daemon: mdadm -F.

After this action /etc/mdadm/ subdir was totally EMPTY
ergo: no mdadm.conf

I restored that manually using mdadm -E /dev/sda1

Tried it on several other machines, same problems!

That's not good. Do you still have the mail? Can you verify whether
it was sent on time and possibly held up in some mail queue?

I am glad you are back in control. :)
