When using the ssh upload method, if the target directory does not
exist (such as the default suggestion of /var/archives/uploads),
backup-manager will upload the backups to /var/archives/uploads as a
file:

This also results in the loss of all but the last backup, and
presumably all but the last directory if you back up multiple
directories.
