Package: termcap-compat
Version: 1.2.3
Severity: normal

Given its nature of "oldlib" and its dependence on libc5, libtermcap
should not reside directly in /lib, but rather in /lib/libc5-compat. I had a
few segmentation faults trying to run locally installed programs compiled
for recent RedHat systems (e.g. the Oracle8i installer), linked against
glibc2.1.2 and libtermcap2, that obviously choked upon trying to load the
libtermcap provided by termcap-compat. If I may suggest, please move those
libraries to the libc5-compat directory and, to ensure proper libtermcap
compatibility for programs linked against libc6, add a symlink
libtermcap.so.2 -> libncurses.so.x, where x may be just about anything. This
latter dirty trick allowed quite a few programs to run without a hitch. I
did not experience any problems whatsoever with it actually, but your
mileage may vary.

Thanks
Bye

The termcap-compat package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/323139 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
