Package: pcmcia-source
Version: 3.2.5-2.7
Severity: wishlist

RealTek 81x9 is a chip found on many cheap Ethernet CardBus cards. Donald Becker had written a working driver for these chips. I've put up a patch for pcmcia-cs source package. I'll try to collect some IDs to add to /etc/pcmcia/config if there's a need. For now, manually add the following lines to /etc/pcmcia/config.opts:

--- 8< ---
device "realtek_cb"
  class "network" module "cb_enabler", "realtek_cb"

card "RealTek Rtl8139"
    manfid 0x0000, 0x024c  bind "realtek_cb"
--- >8 ----

Additionally, I've added a patch that allows to enable "monitor mode" functionality with Orinoco WiFi cards (original patches are avalaible from http://airsnort.shmoo.com/).

Both patches are combined in one patch which you can find at http://pawel.szubartowski.eu.org/debian/pcmcia-cs.patch.bz2. This patch applies cleanly to pcmcia-source-3.2.5-2.7.

Please add it to mainstream package, because it doesn't disturb normal operation of standard components (it's just a useful add-on).

Tested on Debian GNU/Linux testing, kernels 2.4.2[2-5] compiled with gcc-2.95.4 and works quite fine.

Since the pcmcia-source package doesn't exist anymore, I'm closing the bug
reported against it.
