Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.7-1.1
Severity: normal

This bug occurs only on my home machine which was not connected to the
internet, so I have sent my report from another similar system with
the same version of xmms installed.

The problem arises when I changed my motherboard, which no longer
supports my old ISA Opti card. But this motherboard has the intel 810
sound chip builtin, so I still have sound. However, I then noticed
that when I play certain mp3 or wav files sampled at low frequency),
xmms plays wrongly at high frequency. This can be heard as the pitch
appears too high. Also the displayed time counter runs too fast: a 1
minute clip may play in perhaps 30 secs.

Note that xmms plays correctly the same sound files on another machine
(the one which I sent this report) which has a maestro3 card. So the
problem may be related to the sound device and the i810_audio driver.
But when I try to play the same sound file on this machine with
realplayer (the linux version), it works. Thus the problem still comes
from xmms, at least partly.

Note that high quality sound files (ripped from a CD, which were
sampled at 44 or 48 kHz) do not have the above problem: xmms plays
them correctly. If you need an example of sound file which was
incorrectly played by xmms, I can sent you one.

The xmms package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/461309 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
