Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.5-1
Severity: normal
This is a very weird bug. I have a lot of mp3 file which I have
burn into a CD but when I try to play them by xmms, the files get listed
in the playlist but can't be played. This happens for all files in several
directories but for all in some other directories, everything are normal.
I also noticed that the files which have problem have their name listed
in the playlist _without a duration time_ while those without problem are
listed with a duration time. Also, as I have said, in a directory, either
all files have this problem or none have. Further, I can copy those files
which have problem to my hard disk and then they can be played as usual.
The problem seems to be related with mp3 tag, because xmms is not
able to "see" the duration of the song. It may also be related to the
reading of the CD (it is a CD reader on a portable) by the new kernel
(2.4.5). In this respect, I should point out that I have an older linux
system (potato running kernel 2.2.19) with an older version of xmms
(1.0.1-2) which doesn't present any such problem.
