Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.10-1.1
Severity: important

xmms "hangs" an SMB mount when attempting to add a new directory full of
MP3s and then play them.

Here are the steps I use to cause this to happen everytime:
1. Mount the SMB share:
        $ smbmount //fileserver/mp3s ~/mp3s
2. Run xmms
3. Add a directory from ~/mp3s
4. Start playing
5. Remove all files from playlist (optional: press Stop before doing
this)
6. Add another directory from ~/mp3s
7. Start playing

At step 7, it'll freeze xmms straight away. If I then try to cd ~/mp3s
from the shell, this hangs too.
If I attempt to use smbumount to unmount the mp3s mount, it hangs.

As root, if I try a "umount -f", I get:
umount2: Device or resource busy
umount: //fileserver/mp3s: not found
umount: /home/david/mp3s: Illegal seek
umount2: Device or resource busy
umount: /home/david/mp3s: device is busy

If I kill xmms and try a "umount -f" as root, it will unmount the SMB
mount and I can continue.

I have used mpg123 to play MP3s from this SMB mount for hours without
any problems. Also, Winamp or a Windows client doesn't seem to have
issues.

If you tell me what to do, I can attempt to provide you with debugging
information or generally more information.

The xmms package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/461309 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
