When I do the following
1. Open a FireFox window to the maximum size allowed by my screen
2. Have my Gmail.com account open as the only tab in the window
3. Open a new tab in the same window
then the FireFox window resizes, becoming substantially smaller, both
in length and width.
I haven't noticed any other situations that trigger this behavior.

The firefox package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.
