'mc -v' can be used as pretty pager (for man pages):
Step 1:
create the script /usr/bin/mcpager:

cat > /tmp/mcpager.$$
mc -v /tmp/mcpager.$$
rm -f /tmp/mcpager.$$

Step 2:
Insert this into /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/pager
-----
/usr/bin/mcpager
100
-----
Step 3:
run `update-alternatives --config pager', if you want.

Since upstream won't fix this issue within time and I have enough bugs to work
on I'll close this bug as wontfix.. If you can provide a working patch please
