--- Begin Message ---Package: libxul0d Version: 1.8.0.14~pre071019b-0lenny1 Severity: normal -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (91, 'stable'), (90, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash libxul0d 1.8.0.14~pre071019b-0lenny1 depends on libnss3-0d, which conflicts with libnss3-1d. libnss3-1d is a very important package, required by openoffice.org, evolution, icedove, and iceape, so libxul0d is practically uninstallable on a normal desktop system. acroread from debian-multimedia.org however depends on libxul0. This means that acroread and openoffice can't be installed at same time on a current lenny system. I know acroread is not an essential package for Debian, but there may be more users besides me who consider it essential for their daily work. Other packages, like epiphany and yelp, also depend on libxul0d and should suffer from the same problem. The conflict between libnss3-0d and libnss3-1d was introduced in the course of bug 485080. I am not sure what the actual problem is there, because libnss3-1d installs /usr/lib/libnss3.so.1d and libnss3-0d installs /usr/lib/libnss3.so.0d (is it all about the libnss3.so symlink?). This problem did not exist with xulrunner-1.8.1.14-3, because that package didn't come with libnss3-0d any more. I haven't understood why the 1.8.1.4-3 xulrunner disappeared from lenny. I worked around this problem here by getting the 1.8.1.4-3 sources and compiling them. xulrunner-1.9 is not a viable solution because libgtkembedmoz.so library (which is what acroread actually needs) is not provided by xulrunner-1.9. That's not a problem as long as libxul0d remains available, because AFAICS xulrunner 1.9 and 1.8 can coexist happily. Also, Adobe seems to work on a acroread version that gets along without libgtkembedmoz.so. I recommend to: - put xulrunner 1.8.1.4-3 back into lenny (or lenny updates) - weaken the acroread requirement of libxul0d to a "recommends" (after all, it's only necessary to display embedded HTML in PDF files) (This is why I set Christian Marillat on cc).
