these days, it's pretty odd to have services that don't do intelligent
things like detect the configuration of a machine, or not have a GUI
interface.
cpufreqd (or cpufrequtils) _definitely_ needs improvement.
i just installed cpufreqd on a toshiba satellite pro with a dual intel
processor.
the processors ran at 100%, and after 20 minutes, crashed the machine.
it took several minutes for the machine to cool down enough so that
sound could work again (!)
i started looking carefully, and found /etc/default/cpufreqd has entries
in it of MAX and MIN cpu speed.
it actually says at the top of that file 'you must read /proc entries
and then edit this file by hand'
well... these days, that's a bit poor.
a little bit of care, with sed, awk or even python or god forbid perl,
would mean that those values could be read from /proc automatically, and
used instead.
if people don't particularly care for that, then it can be a config
option / debconf question.

this was a cpufrequtils bug and it has been solved a long time ago.
cpufrequtils tries to load the appropriate cpufreqd driver and sets the
ondemand governor by default. /etc/default/cpufrequtils is infact
obsolete and not used anymore.
