--- Begin Message ---Package: util-linux Version: 2.12r-12 Severity: grave File: /sbin/hwclock Justification: renders package unusable Using manual command: hwclock --show waits a few seconds and fails with the message: select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out and so is the --hctosys command. Etch kernel here is linux-image-2.6.17-2-686 version 2.6.17-9. Booting the same hardware to sarge + 2.6.17 or 2.6.18 is fine and its hwclock works as expected (so not a hardware bug). I found this after tracking why I had a 1 hour time shift at boot. I normally use Europe/Paris for my local time, but I had to work around this bug by setting the system timezone to GMT (I hope this is temporary). Playing manually with hwclock I also discovered --directisa, which when added makes it work but I guess this is for debug only and should not be used in production. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages util-linux depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libncurs 5.5-5 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libslang 2.0.6-4 The S-Lang programming library - r ii libuuid1 1.39+1.40-WIP-2006.10.02+dfsg-2 universally unique id library ii lsb-base 3.1-15 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime util-linux recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- Hope this helps, Fabien.
