However, starting with Linux 2.6 (hence, starting with etch), both libasound2 and /dev/dsp interfaces [1] are provided, and applications are no longer allowed to assume a standard /dev/dsp is present. This situation makes this package become broken for most users (i.e. those who will install etch, or upgrade from sarge/linux2.4 and no longer have a working /dev/dsp).
